Don\u2019t wait till the last day.<br \/>Apply to more than one school.<br \/>Know the law\/check the school\u2019s Admission Policy.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What is the admission age for Grade 1?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Compulsory school-going age (Grade 1) is 7 years in the year that the child is in Grade 1.<br \/>Admission to Grade R is 6 years in the year that the child is in Grade R.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What documents are required to register a child at a public school?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Birth certificate.<\/li><li>Immunisation card.<\/li><li>A transfer card\/letter.<\/li><li>Last school report card for learners who have been to school.<\/li><li>A study permit issued by Home Affairs for foreign learners.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A child may be registered provisionally if these documents are not available. The parent must be given reasonable time to submit them.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Is it important to enrol for Grade R?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes.
