{"id":59880,"date":"2024-10-31T10:50:25","date_gmt":"2024-10-31T10:50:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nursing24.co.za\/?page_id=221"},"modified":"2024-10-31T10:50:25","modified_gmt":"2024-10-31T10:50:25","slug":"nursing-at-us-stellenbosch-university-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/forms24.co.za\/data\/nursing-at-us-stellenbosch-university-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Nursing at (US) Stellenbosch University"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Nursing at (US) Stellenbosch University<\/h2>\n<h3>Department of Nursing\u200b and Midwifery<\/h3>\n<p>Today the Department of Nursing\u00a0and Midwifery has strengthened their programme offering in\u00a0both clinical and non-clinical programmes with an average of 650 postgraduate students and an 85% throughput and completion rate.\u00a0 Postgraduate programmes include honours, masters and doctorate degrees, and\u00a0postgraduate diplomas\u00a0in Primary Health Care, Critical Care Nursing, Operating Room Nursing, Advance Midwifery, Advance Psychiatry, Nursing Education, and Nursing Management.\u00a0 The Department has an active role in the Basic Nursing Degree offered as a shared degree on a \u201cCommon Teaching Platform\u201d in the Western Cape with the University of the Western Cape as the enrolling university and SU an offering university.<\/p><div id=\"forms-592613760\" class=\"forms-atf forms-entity-placement\" style=\"margin-top: 15px;margin-bottom: 20px;\"><script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-9198760278752355\"\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\n<!-- Responsive ads atf -->\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\n     style=\"display:block\"\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-9198760278752355\"\n     data-ad-slot=\"8381596201\"\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/div>\n<p><strong>Nursing at (US) Stellenbosch University General Information<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A. GENERAL INFORMATION<br \/>\n1. To be considered for selection to the four-year B of Nursing degree programme an<br \/>\napplicant shall hold the National Senior Certificate (NSC), endorsed by Umalusi with<br \/>\nadmission to Bachelor\u2019s degree studies, or an equivalent qualification with an aggregate<br \/>\nof at least 50% (level 4) (excluding Life Orientation) and at least 40% (level 3) for<br \/>\nMathematics, and at least 50% (level 4) for Life Sciences.<br \/>\nOn account of the outstanding merit of most applicants, meeting the minimum<br \/>\nentrance requirements is by no means a guarantee for successful selection.<\/p>\n<p>2. Since approximately 25-30% of the selected applicants do not accept the selection offer,<br \/>\nmore applicants are selected initially in order to eventually reach the goal of 50 in total.<\/p>\n<p>3. A maximum of two places are reserved for applicants who meet the minimum<br \/>\nadmission requirements, and are admitted at the request of the Rector on account of<br \/>\nextraordinary considerations (as determined by the Rector).<\/p>\n<p>4. The annual revision of the number of students admitted to the programme depends on:<br \/>\n\u2022 Training capacity in terms of human resources, infrastructure and the clinical<br \/>\ntraining platform<br \/>\n\u2022 Regional and national needs<br \/>\n\u2022 Enrolment planning of the University<\/p>\n<p>5. Only applicants who have indicated B of Nursing as a first choice on their application<br \/>\nwill be considered.<\/p>\n<p>6. Candidates cannot defer their selection from one year to another. If an applicant is<br \/>\nsuccessful, but does not take up their selection, such an applicant will normally have to<br \/>\napply anew to be considered for selection in future.<\/p>\n<p>7. As soon as the final National Senior Certificate marks (or equivalent) become available<br \/>\nin January of the following year, these marks and\/or the improved NBT results are used\u00a0instead of the Grade 11 marks and the<br \/>\noriginal NBT results respectively, and the waiting list order is adjusted accordingly.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Teaching &amp;<\/strong>\u00a0Learning<\/h3>\n<h4>Postgraduate Diplomas in Nursing<\/h4>\n<p><strong>General Information<\/strong><br \/>\nProgrammes and\/or specific modules may be presented by means of interactive telematic education technology.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"ms-rteStyle-Accent1\">\u00bb\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sun.ac.za\/english\/faculty\/healthsciences\/interdisciplinary-health-sciences\/Documents\/Nursing_division_brochure_final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"ms-rteStyle-Accent1\">Click here to view the brochure of postgraduate programmes<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Short courses<\/h3>\n<h4>Certificate in Basic Midwifery<\/h4>\n<p><strong><span class=\"ms-rteStyle-Normal\">Applications open on 1 March and close on the following dates:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"ms-rteStyle-Normal\"><strong>31 May<\/strong>:\u00a0 Applications close for the programme MB,ChB in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"ms-rteStyle-Normal\"><strong>30 June<\/strong>:\u00a0 Applications close for all other undergraduate programmes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"ms-rteStyle-Normal\"><strong>30 June<\/strong>:\u00a0 Residence applications close.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"ms-rteStyle-Normal\"><strong>31 August<\/strong>: Applications close for Stellenbosch University financial assistance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"ms-rteStyle-Normal\"><strong>31 October<\/strong>: Applications close for Diploma in Public Accountability (Telematic Education).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"ms-rteStyle-Normal\"><strong>30 November<\/strong>: Applications for NSFAS bursaries close.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"ms-rteStyle-Normal\">\u200bPlease note that no late applications will be considered.\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0APPLICATION FEE<\/strong>\u200b<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"ms-rteStyle-Normal\">Application fee (R100) can be paid as part of the online application process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"ms-rteStyle-Normal\">Please note that applicants from schools with a quantile 1 to 3, as well as international students, do not need to pay the application fee. Quantile 1 to 3 schools are schools which are identified by the Department of Basic Education as schools situated in disadvantaged environments. If you are unsure about the status of your school, please ask the school.
