The School offers education and training in both under and post graduate levels. All programs offered by the School are recognized by the South African Nursing Council for registration and registered with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). The School of Nursing is the largest residential nursing school in the country and offers the Bachelor of Nursing (BNurs) as its core undergraduate programme. Each specialisation has its own prescibed admnission requirements and recommendations for prospective students. These are set out under each course.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"ms-rteElement-H4\">Admission Requirements<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">\n<div class=\"ms-rteElement-P ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">4 year BNur<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">\n<div class=\"ms-rteElement-P ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">One year relevant clinical experience\u00a0or in an area of specialisation<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"ms-rteElement-P ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">Proof of registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Nurse or Midwife<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 class=\"ms-rteElement-H4\">Registration and orientation<\/h4>\n<p class=\"ms-rteElement-P\">The University registration period opens early January and students are\u00a0to ensure that they consult the General calendar for schedule and registration rules.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ms-rteElement-P\">In addition\u00a0to the orientation provided by the University, the school will present its own orientation for\u00a0Nursing\u00a0postgraduate students. Students will be notified via email with regards to the programme or may check\u00a0the website for\u00a0details.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"ms-rteElement-H4\">Attendance<\/h4>\n<p class=\"ms-rteElement-P\">The course cannot be done via correspondence and attendance of lectures is required.\u00a0As full\u00a0and part time share the same lecture periods, one Tuesday every two weeks have been set aside for PG class attendance<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"ms-rteElement-H4\">Cost<\/h4>\n<p class=\"ms-rteElement-P\">The course fees\u00a0for each\u00a0year of enrolment\u00a0is determined by the combined cost of the total number of modules registered\u00a0per\u00a0enrolment. Detailed\u00a0information regarding\u00a0programme costs and payment rules and\u00a0options can be\u00a0found in the University\u00a0fees\u00a0booklet\u00a0available\u00a0for download\u00a0from the UWC website.<\/p>\n<h3>CE COURSES<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>PRECEPTORSHIP TRAINING FOR NURSES<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 class=\"ms-rteElement-H4\">Purpose of course \/ Course description<\/h4>\n<p class=\"ms-rteElement-P\">There is currently a shortage of professional nurses in most service settings in South Africa. This impacts on the support provided to student nurses who are placed in these settings. The purpose of this course is to equip professional nurses to perform the role of clinical preceptor. The clinical perceptor will assist you with the development of clinical competencies, which will have a direct impact on the quality of patient care delivery within clinical service settings.
