The Department of Nursing Science at the Faculty of Health Sciences offers the Baccalaureus Curationis (Instructionis et Administrare) (B Cur I et A) degree, aimed at enabling nursing professionals to be a cut above the rest.<\/p><div id=\"forms-3190303283\" class=\"forms-atf forms-entity-placement\" style=\"margin-top: 15px;margin-bottom: 20px;\"><script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-9198760278752355\"\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\n<!-- Responsive ads atf -->\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\n     style=\"display:block\"\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-9198760278752355\"\n     data-ad-slot=\"8381596201\"\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/div>\n<p>The B Cur I et A course branches into Clinical and Non-Clinical courses.<\/p>\n<h3>Clinical Courses<\/h3>\n<p>The clinical fields of specialisation programmes are presented over a period of at least two years.<\/p>\n<p>The fields of specialization are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Medical and Surgical Nursing Science:\u00a0<strong>Critical Care: General<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Medical and Surgical Nursing Science:\u00a0<strong>Emergency Nursing<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Operating Theatre Nursing<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please note that these courses are not necessarily offered every year as the number of applicants per speciality determines the cost-effectiveness of the programmes.<\/p>\n<h3>Subjects presented<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>First year:\u00a0<\/strong>Clinical Nursing Science I (KVG 110 &amp; KVG 120), Systems of Nursing Practice I (VPT 160) and Nursing Dynamics (VDN 110 &amp; VDN 120).\u00a0The first year is a generic year for all clinical specialities.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Second year:<\/strong>\u00a0Clinical Nursing Science II (KVG 250 &amp; KVG 260), Systems of Nursing Practice II (VPT 260) and Nursing Science Practice (VGK 201).\u00a0The second year is the year of specialisation.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>\u00a0Entry requirements<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Matriculation\/Grade 12 certificate<\/li>\n<li>Proof of registration at the SANC as General Nurse<\/li>\n<li>For Child Nursing and Neonatal Nursing, registration as Midwife\/Accoucheur is also required<\/li>\n<li>At least one year experience in the workplace relevant to the area of specialisation is compulsory.<\/li>\n<li>A post in the field of speciality at an accredited clinical facility with formal approval of studies by the particular clinical facility.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>These programmes are only presented in Pretoria and require weekly attendance. Programmes are presented as contact classes supported by paper-based workbooks.\u00a0The lectures commence in the first week of February and are presented seven times per subject per semester.<\/p>\n<p>The following subject combinations are required:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Community Nursing Science: Community Nursing Science ( GVP 110 &amp; GVP 120) and Nursing Dynamics (VDN 110 &amp; VDN 120)<\/li>\n<li>Nursing Education: Nursing Education Theory (VOW 110 &amp; VOW 120), Didactics of Nursing Education (DNE 110, DNE 120 and DNE 160), and Nursing Dynamics (VDN 110 &amp; 120)<\/li>\n<li>Nursing Management: Nursing Management, Business and Organisational Psychology (BDO and Nursing Dynamics (VDN 110 &amp; VDN 120)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Practica<\/h3>\n<h4>Community Nursing<\/h4>\n<p>320 hours of clinical learning practica is required; part of which will take place during a block at Prinshof Campus (University of Pretioria).<\/p>\n<h3>Other courses<\/h3>\n<p>The other courses have practica and are done informally as well as formally. The details of the practice will be communicated during contact sessions.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Duration of the programme<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>3 Years<\/p>\n<p>It is possible to complete all the subjects required for the registration of one qualification with the SA Nursing Council (SANC) in one year.<\/p>\n<h3>Entry requirements<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Matriculation\/Grade 12 certificate<\/li>\n<li>Proof of registration with the SANC as General Nurse<\/li>\n<li>Midwife\/Accoucheur is compulsory for Community Nursing Science<\/li>\n<li>At least two years\u2019 applicable experience as registered nurse for the courses in Nursing Education and Nursing Management (This is not applicable if you want to register for Community Nursing only.)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Medium of instruction<\/h3>\n<p>The medium of instruction is English, but students may write assignments, tests and examinations in either Afrikaans or English.<\/p>\n<h3>Examinations<\/h3>\n<p>Examinations are written in June and November of each year.<\/p>\n<h3>Application<\/h3>\n<p>Prospective students can obtain an application form from the Client Service Centre at the University\u2019s main campus in Lynnwood, Pretoria or phone\u00a0(012) 420 3111 to request a form to be mailed to you.
