It\u2019s a complex subject, so this article just covers the main areas and looks at some ways you can address them within your firm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Environmental&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As you would imagine, this first pillar of ESG focusses on the effects on the physical, natural environment. Across the globe, how we produce, consume and discard has a significant adverse impact on the natural world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Considerations include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Potential climate risk<\/li><li>The extraction and use of raw materials<\/li><li>The effects of human activity on biodiversity<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Social&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s not only nature we need to consider. How employees and local communities are affected also must be taken into account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Considerations include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Are human rights respected?<\/li><li>Is the end consumer protected from unsafe products or practices?<\/li><li>How is the personal data of individuals protected?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Governance&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Governance is to do with making sure there are systems in place to ensure accountability within a corporation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Considerations include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Transparency of processes and procedures<\/li><li>Clear anti-bribery and corruption policies<\/li><li>Ensuring boards are composed of independent members<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How to simplify and structure your ESG process&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Given the wide spectrum of areas that fall under ESG, putting a process into action can seem daunting.
