What is the weight requirement for police officers?

There is no weight requirement, however candidates must meet a body fat guideline as follows:

BODY FAT MUST NOT EXCEED

 POLICE OFFICER CANDIDATEFIREFIGHTER CANDIDATE
FEMALE30%22%
MALE22%17%

HOW DO I KNOW IF I EXCEED THE BODY FAT REQUIREMENT?

We can only make very general recommendations based on your weight since everyone’s body build is different. However, we recommend the following:

FEMALES:
Females who are 5 feet tall should get their weight down to 124 pounds. For every inch above 5 feet, add 4 pounds. For example, a female who is 5 feet and 6 inches tall, should try to get her weight down to 148 pounds (124 +(6 x 4) = 148).

MALES:
Males who are 5 feet and 8 inches, should get their weight down to 169 pounds. For every inch above 5’8″, add 5 pounds. For example, a male who is 6 feet tall, should try to get his weight down to 189 pounds (169 + (4 x 5) = 189). These weights are only general guidelines as we use body fat content and not weight to make the final decision. If your weight is more than these recommendations, but you are very muscular, then you are probably OK.

SHOULD I GET MY BODY FAT TESTED BEFORE COMING TO LOS ANGELES?

No. Most body fat testing devices available at your gym or shopping mall are very inaccurate.
