Vaal University of Technology (VUT)
VUT was established in 1966. It is now a fully-fledged University of Technology.
It is an educational institution with a long tradition of learning since its establishment in 1966 in Vaal in central South Africa. As one of the largest universities of technology in South Africa, VUT’s 21,000 students come from over 25 countries around the world.
Vaal University of Technology’s mission is to produce top-quality, employable, and entrepreneurial graduates who can have a positive impact on society. Through practical, applied research, VUT contributes to modern-day challenges and the development of human resources not only in the Vaal region, but also in South Africa as a whole and throughout the entire continent. Vaal University of Technology is made up of 4 faculties:
- human sciences
- applied and computer sciences
- management sciences
- engineering and technology
Within these faculties, students may choose between diploma, bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees as well as post-graduate research opportunities. International students receive a great deal of support through the wide range of specialist services developed toward helping them settle in at VUT. ‘Internationalisation’ as a concept is also promoted as VUT integrates global and local needs for mutual benefit.
The main campus of Vaal University of Technology is the Vanderbijlpark campus located on 4.6 hectacres of land in the historic Vaal region. Facilities include state-of-the-art laboratories, lecture halls, auditoriums, and a library. VUT’s excellent facilities are conducive to learning, research, sport, recreation, culture, art, and community engagement. VUT takes seriously its developmental role as a university of technology, and aims to become a leader in innovative knowledge and quality technology education.
Vaal University of Technology is a tertiary institution in South Africa and attracts students from all over the country. It is one of the largest residential Universities of Technology, with about 15,000 students, 300 programs, all primarily taught in English. The campus and facilities are conducive to learning, research, recreation and sport, art and culture, and community service.

What You’ll Need

- South African applicants will need an ID number. Foreign applicants will need their passport number.
- Copy of your school qualifications (eg Senior Certificate)
- The application fee which changes annually so consult the admissions office at +27 (0)16 950 9356 or at admissions@vut.ac.za to determine the correct amount.
Application outcomes will be communicated by SMS, or you can use the Application self-check link on the website.

- Go to VUT’s website
- Click on ‘Apply To VUT’
- Click on ‘Application status’
- Enter your Student, Passport or ID Number
- You will now be able to see your application status
