Short Course in Refresher Training for Explosives Workers (76831)Purpose

To apply safe handling principles during explosives processes throughout the life cycle of explosives products and to allow refresher training to explosives workers to confirm their ability to control explosives and explosives related activity safely in a practical environment.
 
 Target group

The explosives and armaments industry (including commercial, arms manufacturing, military, police, mining, structural engineering and explosives regulatory sectors)
“All students wishing to register for the Short Learning Programmes in Explosives have to be employed in the explosives industry”
 
 Admission requirements

Senior Certificate or an equivalent NQF level 4 qualification. Note: Students should be competent with language, numeracy and communication skills at NQF Level 5.

UNISA blended learning education together with classes per module and experiential learning at the workplace
 Kind of assessment

Note:
Formative assessment and examination admission will comply with UNISA’s formative assessment rules and policies
Formative assessment:
One assignment per module, attendance of one class presented at the workplace (work-integrated learning)
Summative assessment:
One written examination per module
 Apply explosives technologies and skills and interpret and apply legal and safety requirements in an explosives environment. (SCAETLS)Syllabus/Content Topics

  • Identify and explain the various explosives classifications with regards to dangerous goods
  • Identify and explain the various explosives marking and labelling requirements in terms of national legislation and organisational requirements
  • Identify and explain the various explosives storage and transport requirements in terms of legislation
  • Apply and use the elementary explosive technologies and legal requirements during explosives related tasks.
  • On successful completion of the unit standard, students will be able to apply and use the elementary explosive technologies and legal requirements during explosives related tasks.
