SSSC Registration Fee

It’s important that you keep up to date with paying your fees.

It’s your responsibility and if you don’t pay on time your registration could be removed meaning you would need to re-apply and pay the application fee. You may not be able to work and your employer may take action because you are not registered.

How much do I need to pay?

The fees are set at different levels depending on the role and the part of the Register. You can find more information on the Help with Register parts, fees and qualifications page.

When do I need to pay?

You pay a fee with your application and a fee each year for the period of your registration. This is usually five years except for social workers (three years) and social work students (up to seven years). At the end of the registration period you are invited to renew your registration. We will contact you before your fee is due to remind you.

How do I pay my fee?

There are various ways to pay your fee but some methods are much faster and more secure than others.

  • Online – the quickest and most secure way to pay your fee is through MySSSC
  • Direct Debit – choose this option to set up future direct debit details for payment of annual/renewal fees only. To pay your fees by Direct Debit, choose the Direct Debit option when you complete your online application and download the Direct Debit Instruction and send it to us.
  • Tonepay – An automated payment system, available 24hrs a day 7 days a week for your convenience. If you have received an invoice from us, then please call 0345 60 36 979 and choose option 1, option 1 to use this service. You will require your 6 digit customer number that you will find top left on your invoice or reminder. You then enter the amount you wish to pay, followed by your card details. A reference number will be provided once your payment has been successful.
  • Cheque/postal order – You can post a cheque or postal order to the Scottish Social Service Council. Write your unique application reference number printed on your form in the bottom left corner of each page (usually your National Insurance number) (may change depending on system) on the back of your cheque or postal order.
