Quick Guide to Unisa campuses and Regional Centers 2025/2026

Whether you’re a new Unisa student starting your school year or visiting the University of South Africa, there is so much to discover.

University of South Africa, Unisa campuses is one of the most visited places in Boston and even all of the East Coast.

The university has campuses in Gauteng, located in Johannesburg and Pretoria. All unisa campuses are within easy reach of the OR Tambo and Lanseria international airports. The campuses are:

Unisa florida campus

The Unisa Florida campus in Johannesburg is Unisa’s science campus. It is one of the most important and popular Unisa campuses.

The College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences and some departments of the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology is housed here.

The science campus contains 12 buildings, a library, two auditoriums and a large study area.

Horticulture Centre

Unisa Florida campus has a horticultural center and a multipurpose research and training facility designed to meet the education and research needs of students in a range of programs including agriculture, ornamental horticulture, and nature conservation.

Muckleneuk Campus

Unisa’s Muckleneuk Campus is located in Pretoria and is a major landmark of the capital city. It is one of the most recognized Unisa campuses.

It was in 1972 that Unisa moved into its new home on Muckleneuk Ridge having vacated the old quarters in central Pretoria.

The complex of buildings was designed by Bryan Sandrock Architects in the 1960s and expresses an international style characterized by monumental proportions and engineering feats like the cantilevered structures.

The most striking feature of the Muckleneuk Campus is the long projection from the brow of the hill, supported by a giant steel girder resting on a massive column.

  • The main Unisa library is located in the Anton Lembede Building.
  • The Thabo Mbeki Presidential Library is located on the 1st floor of the Kgorong Building.

The Unisa Space Art Gallery is located on the ground floor of the Kgorong Building.

Sunnyside campus

Also in Pretoria is the Sunnyside campus. Among all unisa campuses, it is the main area of student activity.

Regional campuses and services centers

Distance learning requires that you study in your own time and in your own space, but that doesn’t mean you’re on your own. The University of South Africa (Unisa) provides various regional facilities and services to cater to its diverse student population.

You can visit a Unisa regional centre to:

  • get advice
  • meet other students
  • make use of Unisa services
  • have conversations with counselors
  • use our Academic Literacies Services
  • use a computer (there are a limited number of computers available at the regional centers).

Eastern Cape regional campuses

The Eastern Cape Region consists of three service centres. East London is the hub of the Eastern Cape Region; the two other centres are the Mthatha Service Centre and the Port Elizabeth Service Centre. The region serves approximately 15,000 students at its three centres.

Gauteng regional campuses

Located at the center of the country, Gauteng Region provides a menu of student support services to a collective student population of just over 100,000 students through its various regional services centers located in almost all corners of Gauteng Province.

The regional head office is located in Sunnyside, Pretoria and can be contacted via telephone (0124415756) and e-mail (gautengtl@unisa.ac.za).

Gauteng houses one of the most popular unisa campuses (Florida campus).

KwaZulu Natal regional campuses

Located on the east coast of South Africa, KwaZulu-Natal Region provides a menu of student support services to a collective student population of approximately 19,500 for the first semester located in the South Coast, North Coast, Northern Midlands, Midlands and greater Durban areas of the KwaZulu-Natal Province.

The regions, through their regional service centers, are mostly the first point of contact/entry for a student when they visit or call Unisa. The KwaZulu-Natal Region provides student support services from its various service centers that are spread across the province, namely:

  • Durban
  • Pietermaritzburg
  • Newcastle
  • Richards Bay, and
  • Wild Coast

North Eastern regional campuses

The North Eastern Region covers two provinces of South Africa, i.e. Limpopo and Mpumalanga.

The Region provides a menu of student support services to a collective student population of approximately 50,000 students through its various regional service centers located in both Limpopo and Mpumalanga.

The regional head office is located in Polokwan.

Midlands regional campuses

The Midlands Region provides a variety of student administration and academic support services to about 30,000 students, through various regional service centres (RSCs) in the North West, Free State and Northern Cape provinces.

Midlands region has the large number of Unisa campuses or regional centers.

The campuses are located in Rustenburg, Bloemfontein, Kimberley, Kroonstad, Mahikeng and Potchefstroom.

Western Cape regional campuses

The Western Cape Region of Unisa supports approximately 30,000 students. Most of these students are based in the greater Cape Peninsula and are served by our Cape Town Campus in Parow.

Western Cape has only two Unisa campuses (regional centers).
