         Director’s welcome

 

On behalf of the NWU (North-West University), it is my very great pleasure to welcome you to your new academic home. Whether you are an international student, a postdoctoral Fellow, a visiting academic or an international visitor, the NWU International Office is there to help make your arrival and stay at the NWU as enjoyable as possible.

As a student of the NWU you will ultimately study at one of three campuses which collectively boast an extremely diverse team of academic staff members and students:

 

  • Mafikeng Campus, situated in Mahikeng, the capital of the North-West Province. In 2013, nearly 11 000 students from over 22 countries enrolled in one of its five faculties.
  • Potchefstroom Campus, which has a history stretching back to 1869, has a longstanding track record in delivering high-quality graduates and conducting pioneering research. In 2011, nearly 50 000 students from over 52 countries enrolled in one of its eight faculties.
  • Vaal Triangle Campus, situated in Vanderbijlpark on the banks of the Vaal River in a proclaimed nature reserve. In 2011, over 6 500 students from 15 countries enrolled in one of its two faculties.

 

The NWU is an African university which boasts students of some 66 different nationalities and which is recognised internationally for its high standards of excellence, in teaching, learning and research. Here, some of the NWU’s key characteristics include its global competitiveness as regards the very wide range of academic programmes it has on offer, as well as its strategic collaboration with various global academic institutions. Accordingly, the NWU takes pride in the quality of its comprehensive undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and its excellent research track record. Indeed, because of its focus on quality teaching and learning, research excellence with developmental relevancy and the implementation of expertise, NWU graduates are highly regarded by employers the world over.

So hearty congratulations on choosing the NWU and I trust that your stay here will be a happy and fruitful one and not only add lustre to our institution’s international standing but also prepare you to become a leader in your chosen field of expertise, as well as a competent and professional global citizen.
