Netcare Education, a division of Netcare, is regarded as one of South Africa’s leading private education and training institutions of healthcare professionals, both in nursing and ancillary care and emergency medical services.
Netcare Education comprises two faculties, with campuses in Johannesburg and Pretoria in Gauteng, Durban North in KwaZulu-Natal, Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape and Cape Town in the Western Cape. Over 3 500 students registered with the FNAH on various nursing programmes in 2015 and 475 registered with the FECC on various emergency services programmes. On average, 1 500 students graduate annually in the various programmes.

Who we are
Netcare Education’s Faculty of Nursing and Ancillary Healthcare (FNAH) is dedicated to developing the clinical knowledge and practical skills of nursing students, nursing practitioners and other healthcare professionals.
This is achieved through combining theory with experiential learning in hospitals, thereby providing the best learning opportunity for developing knowledge, skills, attitude and values. Through collaboration, innovation and academic excellence in education, our students will be capable and skilled healthcare providers who are able to offer the best evidence-based practice and care to their patients.
Accreditation and registration credentials
The FNAH has been an accredited private nursing education institution since 1989. It is accredited with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a private nursing education institution and Netcare Hospital Management (Pty) Ltd, known as Netcare Education FNAH, has provisional registration with the Department of Higher Education and Training as a private higher education institution.
Strategic partners
University of the Witwatersrand
Netcare Education and the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg have entered into an association agreement to provide programmes in nursing education in terms of the Nursing Act, No 33 of 2005 (as amended) the Higher Education Act No 101 of 1997 and other relevant health legislation, to students registered with Netcare Education for the programmes in Clinical Nursing Science (Regulation 212) as well as for advanced diplomas. The University of the Witwatersrand provides assistance with establishing and maintaining academic standards and is therefore represented at Netcare Education’s senate and council meetings.
Open Learning Group (OLG)
The Open Learning Group (OLG) provides logistical and administrative support to Netcare Education students. OLG furthermore provides logistics management services to Netcare Education including student and administrative support and marketing.
Alignment with National Qualifications Framework (NQF)
Selected programmes are aligned to the National Qualifications Framework. As such, they reflect the respective NQF level, number of credits, outcomes and assessment criteria. This ensures that the credits earned by successful candidates could count towards national SAQA-registered qualifications and might be considered for recognition of prior learning, thereby opening up opportunities for further learning.
Language of instruction
All programmes are presented in English, and students are required to have English language competence at NQF level 4.

Update 5, issued 20 August 2016As per previous communication notifications 1-4 to prospective applicants, the basic nursing programmes, otherwise known as legacy programmes, which were previously offered by private nursing education institutions (“PNEI”), are currently in the process of being phased out.
Intake for post-basic programmes

- 6-month in-service programmes: January and June
Intakes will be subject to campus capacity and the number of students registered for the programme. Note that not all post-basic programmes are offered at every campus. Contact the campus nearest to you for current intake details.
Post-basic specialist programmes
Registered nurses (RNs) and enrolled nurses (ENs) can further their careers by specialising in post-basic fields of healthcare by means of in-service certificate programmes or post-basic diploma programmes.
In-service certificate programmes provides the minimum skills for safe practise in a specialised unit. Post-basic diploma programmes are aimed at developing advanced intellectual and clinical competence in selected fields of interest, qualifying those who successfully complete a programme to work as a leader, consultant, educator or specialist practitioner in providing evidence-based care to patients, together with other team members, within the scope of practice.
Netcare Education’s holistic and integrated approach to education and training combines theory with workplace based experiential learning in hospitals. Integrated training is provided in applied anatomy and physiology, disease entities, applied pharmacology, nursing diagnosis, and treatment of patients, with additional components covering research, administration, teaching and applied nursing dynamics.

Our training programmes
Whether you are interested in a career in emergency medical services, a healthcare professional looking to upgrade or extend your skills, or are simply looking for peace of mind knowing that you have the necessary first aid skills to cope in a medical emergency, the FECC has a course to suit your needs.
We offer a variety of short courses, undergraduate and post-graduate programmes to prospective and current emergency medical services practitioners. Emergency medical training programmes are also offered to augment the inherent skills of doctors and nurses and provide them with focused insight into the field of emergency care.
Members of the public can enrol for a number of first aid courses aimed at equipping individuals with the necessary skills to act in all medical emergencies they are likely to encounter in their day-to-day lives and even to save lives. First aid courses are also offered to corporates and businesses, to have their employees trained in first aid.
The FECC offers training at our campuses in Midrand, Gauteng and Durban North, KwaZulu-Natal. The FECC’s footprint, however, extends across Southern Africa, as training can also be provided in any other region of South Africa based on the specific needs of larger student groups.
