Admission and aptitude tests

Aptitude tests are used as an additional entry pathway or as extra requirements for course entry. Where required, we consider the results of these admission tests when selecting students.

Courses requiring aptitude tests

If an aptitude test is required, it will be listed in the individual course entry in Find a course under the entry requirements section. The information below provides general information. You should follow the instructions for individual course requirements.

UCAT (Undergraduate Clinical Aptitude Test)

For entry into Medicine and Surgery courses:

  • domestic applicants must complete the Undergraduate Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT)
  • international applicants must complete the International Students Admissions Test (ISAT).

STAT (Special Entry Admissions Test)

STAT (multiple choice) is used in the selection process by some courses where applicants have ungraded TAFE results.

Ungraded assessment means results with pass/fail or competent/not yet competent, rather than a specific mark or grade.

You must still meet the English language, age, and other course-specific requirements.

These faculties will accept STAT multiple choice in conjunction with ungraded (or competency-based) TAFE results:

  • Faculty of Arts (for all courses)
  • Faculty of Monash Art, Design and Architecture (for all courses)
  • Faculty of Business & Economics (for some courses only – Bachelor of Business Administration; Bachelor of Business Administration/Bachelor of Arts)
  • Faculty of Information Technology (for all courses)
  • Faculty of Science (for all courses).

You do not need to sit the test if you have one of the following:

  • a Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or an equivalent Year 12 qualification
  • a Vocational Education and Training (VET) or Technical and Further Education (TAFE) certificate or diploma, with a graded assessment at level IV or above
  • two or more university subjects, completed and passed, with a graded assessment.
