HOW TO VERIFY TAX COMPLIANCE STATUS
Verification through the use of the PIN
With the Tax Compliance Status (TCS) system, a taxpayer is able to authorise any 3rd party to verify its compliance status through the use of an electronic access PIN.
The PIN must be used to verify the taxpayer’s compliance status online via SARS eFiling.
Top Tip: When the PIN is used for verification, the result reflects the current tax compliance status at the date and time the PIN is used.
How to verify a TCC via SARS eFiling
Step 1:Logon to eFilingTo use the new Tax Compliance Status Verification service online, you must be authorised to use eFiling. An authorised person (for example the representative taxpayer or eFiling administrator) of the organisation that can setup user groups and user rights must login and activate the service. Step 2: Activate the Tax Compliance Verification serviceActivation of the Tax Compliance Verification service is a once-off process.
- Once you have logged in, setup your user groups and applicable user rights in order to perform TCS verifications
- Click on “Tax Status
- Select “Tax Compliance Status Verification”
- Complete the activation process.
Step 3: Verify the taxpayer’s TCSSelect the “New Verification Request” menu. Capture and submit the taxpayer’s tax reference number and PIN number. Confirm that the taxpayer information displayed corresponds with those of the taxpayer who you intend to verify. The taxpayer’s current tax compliance status will appear and will be colour-coded with a detailed description of what the status means.
The colour coding indicates if the taxpayer’s current tax affairs are in order or not:
- Red – Tax affairs are not in order and the taxpayer is not tax compliant
- Green – Tax affairs are in order and the taxpayer is tax compliant.
You will now be able to print the verification for recording purposes. Your verification will also be stored electronically in “History” for future reference.
