Filipino Nurses’ Organization of Hawai’i Scholarship

Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually.In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Hawaii.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  4. Must be of Filipino ancestry.
  5. Must major in nursing.
  6. Must plan to attend an accredited two- or four-year college or university as a full-time student (12 credits per semester for undergraduate; 9 credits per semester for graduate).
  7. Must demonstrate academic achievement with a grade point average of 2.7 or higher.
  8. Must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate and graduate award.

Description: This award is available for Filipino high school seniors who are a resident of California. Applicants must major in math, engineering, computer science, or the physical or biological sciences (excluding healthcare). Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Additional Information: The Filipino Nurses’ Organization of Hawai’i started this scholarship in 2001 to support students of Filipino ancestry pursuing a degree in nursing. All applicants for this award must demonstrate financial need and good moral character. Recipients will be notified after the scholarship selection committees meet, which could be any time between May and August.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.Deadline Information:

Online application forms are available on the Hawai’i Community Foundation website. The student should visit the Hawai’i Community Foundation’s website for detailed instructions on how to complete the online application. In addition to the online application form, the student must submit the following supporting materials: the printed confirmation page that is generated after applying online; a typed, double-spaced personal statement of two to three pages answering the questions listed at the provider’s website; an official copy of his/her most recent transcript; and a copy of his/her SAR (Student Aid Report). The SAR is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. A student will not be able to submit his/her application until all required supporting documents are electronically attached to the application.
