The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has launched electronic facility for Principal employers. With the launch of this facility, Principal employers can view EPF compliances of their contractors.
Informing about the launch of electronic facility for Principal employers, EPFO tweeted, ” EPFO launches electronic facility for PRINCIPAL EMPLOYERS to view EPF compliances of their contractors.”

Now, EPFO registered employers engaging employees through contractors can add the details of contractors and contract employees at EPFO’s unified portal. unifiedportal-emp.epfindia.gov.in/epfo/.
Meanwhile, Principal Employer (PE) not registered with EPFO can register on Unified Portal to receive login/password to add details of their contractors and contract employees.
To add the details, they will have to create permanent login id and password after the first login. In case they forget the password/login id, they can use ”forgot password link’ to get the same through SMS on their registered mobile number. In case your account is locked due to repeated use of wrong password, use Unlock account link.
On adding contractor’s details, PE can view through their login the employee wise remittance made by contractors through Electronic Challan cum Return (ECR).
PE can now ensure their contractors enroll all contract workers and remit EPF contributions through ECR.
The ECR was launched in April 2012 making the online filing of the returns mandatory for the employers.
