For instance, the latest SMS format is ‘EPFOHO UAN LAN’. Here ‘LAN’ stands for the language code in which users want to access their claim details.

b. Through a missed call

Employees can also check their claim status by giving a missed call from their registered mobile number on the toll-free number – 011-22901406. Once the call is automatically disconnected, individuals will receive information about their PF claim status on their registered mobile number through an SMS. Notably, applicants would be required to update the Aadhaar details, PAN and details of the bank account at the UAN portal.

Who can Make EPF Claims?

Anybody with an EPF account would be deemed eligible to claim the accumulated funds under the following situations.

  • Post-retirement

Account-holders who are over the age of 55 years can claim the entire EPF corpus. Conversely, those who have opted for early retirement would not be allowed to claim the entire value.

  • Prior to retirement

Employees who are 54 years of age can claim up to 90% of their EPF corpus provided they retire after one year.

  • In the case of unemployment

Account-holders can claim up to 75% of their EPF corpus in the event of being unemployed for over a month. However, on starting a new job, they would be required to transfer 25% of the same to their EPF account. Individuals who have been unemployed for over 2 months are allowed to claim their entire EPF corpus.

Further, such partial withdrawal is allowed only in the case of funding required for higher education, medical emergency or for constructing or purchase of a house property.

Step 10 – Select the amount of money required and share address details.

Step 11 – Before clicking on ‘Submit’, tick on the displayed certificate.

Step 12 – Scan and attach essential documents, if required.

With the completion of this process, employees can claim their pension fund and track their PF claim status both online and offline. Additionally, applicants should note that their employer must approve their withdrawal plea to initiate the disbursal process. Once it is approved, the requested sum of EPF would be disbursed to their registered bank account. Usually, it takes around 2-3 weeks for the fund to get transferred into the applicant’s account.
