HOD POSITIONS: FACULTY OF MANAGEMENT SCIENCES

Department of Human Resources

Minimum Requirements:

  • A PhD aligned to a relevant discipline [Human Resources]
  • Academic ranking as an Associate Professor, Professor or Senior Lecturer
  • Five (5) years’ experience in higher education and leadership/management
  • Evidence of research scholarship

Additional Requirements:

  • Evidence of research ouput
  • Professional registration with the relevant Board (if applicable).

Duration

Five (5) years fixed contract, renewable for one additional term based on performance

Summary of duties

  • Dealing with student queries and complaints regarding the Department;
  • Managing and supervising staff which include:-
  • Providing leadership to the department in respect of Teaching & Learning, Research and Community Engagement.
  • Enhancing staff relations and building the team towards effective pursuit of the Envision 2030 strategic plan.
  • Representing the department in relevant institutional, regional and national fora.
  • Academic management of the Department, including allocations of workload, leave and support of relevant training
  • Financial management of the Department, including budgets, appointment of part-time staff and approval and processing of requisitions.
  • Enhancing Faculty projects e.g. Postgraduate recruitment and supervision, community engagement, holistic student support (HSS), and other institutional/Faculty initiatives.

Department of Operations and Quality Management

SENIOR LECTURER/LECTURER

3 Month contract (1 March to 31 May 2025/2026)

Minimum Requirements:

Senior Lecturer

  • A completed Doctoral Qualification in English/Communication Science /Linguistics or Applied Communication or Education specialising in English Language or Literature or related discipline
  • At least 5 years’ teaching experience at tertiary level
  • Sustained publication record in the discipline
  • A record of supervision of postgraduate research

Lecturer

  • A completed Masters Qualification in English/Communication Science/ Linguistics or Applied Communication or Education specialising in English Language or Literature or related discipline, and an undertaking to embark on a Doctorate in an appropriate field of study
  • At least 3 years’ teaching and/or tutoring experience at tertiary level or 3 years’ experience in relevant professional field.

Additional Recommendations

  • The ability to use a wide range of computer applications.
  • Experience in innovative teaching and learning technologies, including e-learning.
  • Evidence of a research track record                                                               

Summary of duties:

  • The successful candidate will be expected to teach in the Programme English and Communication and some General Education modules as required.
  • Setting and marking assessments.
  • Materials development including that of online learning.
  • Undertake duties as assigned by the Programme Co-ordinator/HOD.

Minimum Requirements: •A Doctorate in an appropriate discipline with a strong research profile that demonstrates leadership • A strong record of initiating and managing collaborations and partnerships at local, regional and international levels • Proven record of being a respected senior academic leader • At least ten (10) years’ work experience in the higher education environment of which five (5) years should have been in a senior academic management capacity • Sound knowledge of higher education and the higher education system in South Africa and internationally • Relevant higher education leadership and managerial skills.
