How to Register as a Student

WELCOME TO WESTCOL

Follow these steps (1-7) to become a WESTCOL student.

RETURNING STUDENTS – WELCOME BACK

Please collect a print-out of your course history, enrolment, and subject choice form and bursary application.

STEP 1: ENQUIRY DESK – NEW STUDENTS AND VISITORS

All new students MUST write a placement test. Visitors must sign the enquiry register.

The PLACEMENT TEST is specially designed to assist you to make the right career choice.

You must make an appointment for the PLACEMENT TEST.

Please ensure that you get a booking slip with a date, time and venue number.

STEP 2: PLACEMENT TEST

Staff members will give you INFORMATION on how to complete the forms assist you to complete the PLACEMENT TESTand provide as well as ENROLMENTS FORMS and BURSARY APPLICATION FORMS (PRE-INDUCTION).

RESULTS for the placement test are available after the student has written the test and the outcome needs to be taken to the Programme/Subject Advisors (Step 3).

STEP 3: PROGRAMME /SUBJECT ADVISORS

Staff members will be available for advice regarding courses and assist you to complete your SUBJECT CHOICE form and the CAS form.

Please ensure that you signed all forms including the CODE OF CONDUCT AND ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR NATIONAL EXAMS (MEMO 46).

STEP 4: FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENT DESK:

PAYMENT ARRANGEMENTS AND BURSARY APPLICATIONS

STEP 4.1 BURSARY APPLICATIONS

  • Staff members will assist you with BURSARY APPLICATION.
  • Staff members will check the completeness of the forms and put a DHET stamp.

STEP 4.2: FINANCIAL AGREEMENT

  • Staff members will assist you with PAYMENT ARRANGEMENTS.
  • Private and employer students should produce proof of payment and/or letter from employer (sponsor).

STEP 5: ENROLMENT DESK

STEP 5.1: WEB-ENROLMENT

  • If you have all the supporting documents you are now ready to register yourself on-line.
  • Proceed to the capturing venue (computer room).
  • Please note that you can also enrol yourself at the internet café or at home on the internet. To enrol yourself logon towww.westcol.co.za

STEP 5.2: REGISTRATION DESK

  • Proceed to the registration desk to finalise your registration.
  • You will receive 5 copies of the PROOF OF REGISTRATION.
  • Please keep your proof of registration safely.
  • Receive a timetable indicating commencement of classes.

STEP 5.3: SUBMISSION OF BURSARY APPLICATION DOCUMENTS

Hand in your bursary application documentation at the Bursary Desk (STEP 4.1). Please ensure that you receive and keep your bursary application receipt and your enrolment form.

STEP 6: STUDENT PHOTO

Please ensure that your photo is taken for the student card.

STEP 7:BOOKSHOP

Follow the directions to the bookshop.

You need to submit your proof of registration or payment in order to receive books.

 

ADDITIONAL IMFORMATION CHECKLIST

AFFIDAVITS OF THE FOLLOWING:
Parents/guardians if they are unemployed. 1
Students who use public transport may only submit an affidavit of monthly transport cost if proof or receipts/tickets/slips are not available.

Students who reside further than a radius of ten (10) kilometres from the college may be considered for an award for travel allowance, subject to the availability of funds. Students who use public transport MAY only submit an affidavit of monthly transport cost if receipts/tickets/slips are not available. Please state route and daily fare.

Only students who do not reside with biological parents may submit an affidavit of accommodation costs if rental/lease agreement is not available. Students whose home address is further than a radius than forty (40) kilometres from the college may be considered for an award for accommodation allowance, subject to the availability of funds.

Students who pay rent for accommodation must please include rental address, monthly amount, name and contact number of landlord.
