PhilHealth allows retroactive contribution payment for up to three consecutive months, as long as these two conditions are met:
- Have paid nine consecutive monthly contributions before the unpaid months
- Pay retroactively within one month after the unpaid months
For example, you missed paying your PhilHealth contributions from July to September 2019. You can retroactively pay for those unpaid months within October 2019 if you have consistently paid your contributions for October 2018 to June 2019.
If the retroactive payment is settled before the first day of hospital confinement, it will be considered part of your qualifying contributions (three monthly contribution payments within six months before the first day of confinement), which is a requirement for PhilHealth benefit eligibility.
Going back to the example above, let’s say you paid on October 30, 2019 for July to September 2019 (the previously unpaid months). If you get hospitalized after October 30, you’ll qualify for PhilHealth benefits.
However, if you paid during or after your hospitalization, the payment won’t be counted as part of your qualifying contributions.
