How Do Driving Codes Work?

What job opportunities are available to those without a higher education and work experience? Driving could be an avenue for you to enter the job market and earn some money.

In order to become a driver you need to know what the driving codes mean and how to get the driving licence you need.

The driving codes can be grouped into three categories.

Individuals who obtain a Code A , A1 or Code 1 licence will be qualified to drive motorcycles only.

The second level which includes Code B, EB, Code 8 and Code 2 permits individuals to drive light motor vehicles.

Certain codes also allow individuals to drive a minibus, bus or goods vehicle.

Finally a Code C,C1,EC1,EC, Code 10, Code 14 or Code 3 licence allows drivers to operate heavy vehicles.

There may be a variation in the vehicle mass depending on the code.

If you want to qualify for a driving job you will need to obtain one of the licence codes in the second or third category, depending on the job.

The higher the code the more qualified you will be to drive a range of vehicles.

As with any licensing process, potential drivers will need to apply for and pass a learner exam before they can do the road test.

Bare in mind that you have to be 18 years or older to apply for a licence in the last two categories.

What can I do with my driver’s licence?

A driving licence enables you to transport either goods or products.

This means you can find work as a truck driver, bus driver, taxi driver or courier.

You could also look into employment opportunities in the entertainment industry as a valet or chauffeur.

You can work for a transport company in a permanent capacity or you can work on a contract basis.

The higher your driving code the more flexibility and independence you will have in setting your own work hours.

Licenced drivers who have experience can earn anything from R6000 to R15 000 per month depending on the employer and the job requirements.

However, driver’s may be required to work long hours or travel to different parts of the country.

Employers also look for individuals who are hard working, responsible and reliable.

For those who are willing to meet these requirements there are many exciting employment opportunities.
