2025/2026 Institute of Municipal Engineering of Southern Africa (IMESA) Bursary

Institute of Municipal Engineering of Southern Africa (IMESA) has opened its September 2025/2026 academic year bursary program. All interested applicants should apply using the details below.

CLOSING DATE: 15 September 2025/2026.

IMES will be awarding 2 types of bursaries:

1) Bursaries for those who are not IMESA (Bursary Scheme A)
In order to qualify for this bursary, you must be enrolled in a Civil Engineering program (or another engineering discipline approved by the Executive Council of IMESA) and be in need of financial assistance. Coverage will be limited to tuition and required textbooks.

The IMESA Foundation also offers bursaries to dependents of (Bursary Scheme B)

Awarded to current and future students who are the children of IMESA members who have been a member for at least three years, this bursary will be awarded to current and Civil Engineering is covered by the bursary (or another engineering discipline approved by the Executive Council of IMESA). In this way, tuition will be protected. It will provide coverage for tuition fees and prescribed books only.

BURSARY REQUIREMENTS FOR Institute of Municipal Engineering of Southern Africa (IMESA)

Bursary Scheme A: for non-IMESA members

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must have completed Matric
  • You must be studying full time towards a Civil Engineering degree qualification (or another engineering discipline approved by the IMESA Executive Council)
  • You must be studying at an accredited and recognised tertiary institute in South Africa
  • You must have completed and passed mid-year exams
  • You must be entering your 2nd year (or later) of study in 2025/2026
  • You must have proven financial need (and be unable to fund your studies)

Bursary Scheme B: for dependents of IMESA members

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must have completed Matric
  • You must be studying or intend on studying full time towards a Civil Engineering degree qualification (or another engineering discipline approved by the IMESA Executive Council)
  • You must have an excellent academic record
  • You must be a dependents of an IMESA member (who has been a member for at least 3 years)
  • You must be a dependents of an IMESA member

METHOD OF APPLICATION

Download and complete the relevant IMESA bursary application form:

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Declaration of any other bursary funding received
  • Undersigned statements declaring academic progress in Matric or 1st year (issued by your University/ School)
  • Parents/ guardians proof of monthly income and student’s financial situation (affidavit)
  • Mid year exam results (certified copy)

Students will also be required to submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation, before any bursary funding is paid:

  • Medical certificate
  • Proof of enrolment at a tertiary institute for your selected qualification (on institutions letterhead)
  • Fee statement from your tertiary institution (on institutions letterhead)
