Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

  1. Must be of Asian heritage (at least 50%). Preference will be given to students of Chinese descent.
  2. Must be enrolled in a graduate program at the time of application.
  3. This award is for U.S. students.
  4. Must be majoring in economics or social science.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  6. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Description: The mission of the Asian Pacific Fund is to strengthen the Asian and Pacific Islander community in the Bay Area by increasing philanthropy and supporting the organizations that serve their most vulnerable community members. Ten scholarships are given to help undergraduate and graduate students achieve their education goals.

Additional Information: : To be eligible, Grade level: Graduate student attending US based college or university in 2020-21 Minimum GPA: 3.0 Pursuing a graduate degree in the social sciences, economics preferred but not required Research/study topics: preference given to topics that benefit those in social/economic need, especially Asian and Asian American communities Ethnic heritage: preference for Asian heritage though not required Residency: US citizen, resident or foreign national Financial need Preference given to those whose journey parallels Dr. Hsiao’s who struggled to obtain his education in the midst of financial uncertainty as a young graduate student from China. He devoted his career to academia as a professor in the field of economics. He also was committed to giving back to those in need, including lecturing in China upon his retirement to educate the post-Mao era of economists who are now leading the country.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.
