2025/2026 SAICA Thuthuka Bursary Fund Opened

SAICA Thuthuka has opened its 2025/2026 Bursary program and is inviting all interested applicants to apply now. All interested applicants should apply using the details below.

ABOUT THE SAICA THUTHUKA BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

SAICA are inviting students to apply for the Thuthuka Bursary Fund, for the 2025/2026 academic year. The Thuthuka Bursary has been running for 16 years, and has funded many African and Coloured students to pursue studies towards a Chartered Accountancy [CAs(SA)] qualification.

If you are a Black student (African or Coloured) student who wants to become Chartered Accountant, this is the best bursary for you.
 

Bursaries will be only awarded for studies at the following Thuthuka accredited universities, for the following courses:

  • University of Johannesburg – Bachelor of Accounting (course code: BCA012)
  • University of Pretoria – BCom Accounting Sciences (course code: 07130042)
  • University of Witwatersrand – BAcc Science (course code: CB008)
  • University of the Free State, Bloemfontein Campus – Bachelor of Accounting (course code: 6319)
  • University of Fort Hare – BCom Accounting (course code: 60001)
  • University of Cape Town – BCom (course code: CB023)
  • University of University of Western Cape – Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting (course code: 1021) or BCom Accounting Extended Curriculum (course code: 1753)
  • Stellenbosch University – BCom Accounting/ B Rek (course code: 3091001)
  • Rhodes University – BCom Accounting
  • Nelson Mandela University – BCom Accounting (course code: 40003)
  • North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus – BCom CA (course code: 500 155 E371P)
  • University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, Westville Campus – BCom Accounting (course code: BCOA)

MORE ABOUT THE SAICA THUTHUKA BURSARY PROGRAMME

Bursary recipients will be required to sign an agreement with the Thuthuka Education and Upliftment Fund (TEUF) and NSFAS. Bursaries are awarded annually and are renewed at the discretion of the fund.

Please note: the Thuthuka Bursary will NOT pay for existing loans or debts.

Candidates will be selected based on 3 main criteria: academic results, financial need as determined by the NSFAS financial means test and National Benchmark Test (NBT) results.

Shortlisted applicants will be contacted – if you do not receive any feedback, please regard your application as unsuccessful.
 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SAICA THUTHUKA BURSARY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must be a Black student (African or Coloured)
  • You must be currently in Matric OR have completed Matric
  • You must have passed Mathematics in Matric (NOT Mathematical Literacy or Technical Mathematics)
  • You must have achieved a Bachelors Pass and M-Score to study towards a CA (SA) qualification
  • You must have be studying OR intend on studying at one of the aforementioned universities (must have applied to at least 3 universities, of which 1 must be closest to your home)
  • You must meet the university entrance qualifying criteria to study a BCom Accounting (CA-stream) degree qualification
  • You must have proven financial need (this will be assessed by the NSFAS means test)
  • You must have written OR will apply and write the National Benchmark Tests (NBT) before the bursary closing date

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application be disregarded):

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Grade 11 final results (certified copy)
  • Matric latest results, if currently in Matric (certified copy)
  • Matric final results, if completed Matric (certified copy)
  • Proof of University provisional acceptance, if currently in Matric (on University letterhead)
  • Full University academic record, if currently studying (on University letterhead)
  • Parents/ guardians ID documents (certified copies)
  • Parents/ guardians proof of income (latest payslips if employed/ affidavit if unemployed) (certified copies)
  • ID documents or birth certificates of other dependants in your home (certified copies)
  • Signed Thuthuka Consent Form (.pdf)
