2025/2026 Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) Bursary Opened

The Department of Sports, Arts and Culture’s (DSAC) has opened its Bursary program for the 2025/2026 Academic year. All interested applicants should apply using the details below.

ABOUT THE DSAC BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

The Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture is inviting North-West University students to apply for a Language Bursary, for the 2025/2026 academic year.

The DSAC bursary will cover BA, BA Hons or MA programme studies, with the following subject areas for consideration:

  • Afrikaans
  • English
  • Language Practice
  • Language Technology
  • Sesotho
  • Setswana
  • South African Sign Language

The aim of this bursary is to aid candidates financially, allowing them to reach their academic goals pertaining to language studies and further develop their skills. Candidates who have subjects related to language are strongly encouraged to apply and the programme is open to full-time undergraduate students, as well as full-time and part-time Masters and Honours students.
 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DSAC BURSARY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must be a registered student at North-West University (at any of the campuses)
  • You must be studying a branch of language studies, within one of the areas for considerations listed above
  • You must be registered for a Bachelors, Bachelor of Honours, or Masters programme
  • You must have a minimum results of 60% in 1 of the above language subject areas
  • You must be participating in a minimum of 2 linguistic-based modules, if you are an Honours student
  • You must be studying towards a topics that is linguistic-based, if you are a Postgraduate student

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE DSAC BURSARY

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your online application (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

  • ID document or ID card (certified and not older than 3 months)
  • Full tertiary academic record (on letterhead)
  • Proof of registration at NWU for the 2025/2026 academic year (on letterhead)
  • Progress report that has been signed by a supervisor (applicable for Masters students only)

NOTES ABOUT THE DSAC BURSARY

  • Applicants will only be required to submit their academic reports once their first reports are finalised.
  • Do NOT submit your Matric certificate.
  • All tertiary academic records will be required once the university’s system has finalised the candidate’s first semester marks- candidates will be personally contacted to submit this document.
  • Progress reports will be sent to students for completion by their supervisor.
  • Please ensure that the quality of your Identity Documentation is clear and that both the front and back of your Identity Card is shown.
  • ID documents must be saved as a pdf document only.
